Authentic Mexican Hammock in 100% Nylon Mesh
This hammock pays tribute to the crystalline waters of Playa del Carmen. In Mayan times, it served as a crossing point to Cozumel Island, dedicated to the worship of Ixchel, the goddess of fertility and the moon. A perfect hammock for boats or by the pool!

Mexican XL Hammock "Carmen": The Hammock with Over 1000 Years of History!

The hammock, a prestigious object and hierarchical symbol during the pre-Columbian period in Mesoamerica and the Northern Andes, spread throughout a large part of South America (Amazon basin, South American tropical forests) and Central America (Mexico, Guatemala...) before the 15th century. When the first Western explorers reached the "new world," the hammock was widely used as a sleeping arrangement by all social classes. Today, it is commonly used by many indigenous people, not only for sleeping but also for various activities. The Mexican hammock is one of the most popular hammocks.

The Characteristics of Our XL Mexican Hammocks

XL Mexican hammocks, originating from Chiapas, offer an incomparable relaxation experience. Designed to comfortably accommodate 1 to 2 people, they are made from 100% nylon, ensuring remarkable resistance with a maximum supported load of 200 kg. Mexican artisans, experts in the field, have crafted these hammocks with a generous length of 4m and a significant number of ropes connected to the ring, called the hammock arm.

The Pool Hammock: Do Nothing, Relax, and Let Yourself Be Lulled

This specific design aims to make the hammock soft inside, thus promoting an optimal relaxation experience in the center. The 156 ropes per hammock arm guarantee a balanced weight distribution, ensuring prolonged swaying compared to smaller hammocks. This abundance of ropes provides a sensation of stability and comfort, making these XL hammocks an irresistible invitation to relaxation.

Why Mexican Hammocks Stand Out

It's difficult to say that Mexican hammocks like this XL "Carmen" hammock are better than all other hammocks, as each type of hammock has its advantages and disadvantages depending on the use and preferences of each person. However, it is true that Mexican hammocks have distinctive characteristics that make them very popular and appreciated by many users.

A Mesh Mexican Hammock with a Unique and Attractive Design

Mexican hammocks stand out for their unique design, being woven in a mesh shape. Descendants of the Mayas, these hammocks come in a wide range of colors and patterns, making them aesthetically very attractive. Their open mesh structure facilitates air circulation, making them perfect for enduring heat while allowing natural ventilation. They are particularly suitable for people prone to heavy sweating and who enjoy relaxing outdoors. Moreover, the stretchable material can help distribute weight more evenly, thus providing additional comfort.

A Portable Mexican Hammock for Outdoor Use

Stretchable mesh Mexican hammocks are also very light and easy to transport, making them an ideal choice for campers and hikers. Finally, this type of hammock is often easy to install and dismantle, which makes it practical for outdoor use. To choose your attachments, go to the page: My attachments.

Cultural Anecdote: The Origin of the Term "Gringo"

Did you know? The term "gringo" originated during the occupation of Mexico by American troops in 1914. The soldiers were dressed in green, and the local population called them "green go" (the greens, go away!). Even after the soldiers left, the expression remained. It is common to hear people refer to you as "chele," which is the inversion of the word "leche" (milk) in Verlan, referring to the light skin color of the foreigner. "Gringo" is generally considered more pejorative than "chele."

A big thank you to Edith, our Mexican supplier, and her friend for this video showing how to put away our 'Chile' hammock in its bag.
